LAST MINUTE! ORIGAMI DECORATIONS!!!

This year we saw one of the most fabulous Christmas trees we’ve seen in years at New York’s American Museum of Natural History — decorated entirely in origami animals and stars! True, this takes more effort than plunking a bulb onto a branch, but you get a totally unique result (which even works for a Chanukah bush, if you’re so inclined). Plus origami paper doesn’t cost even half as much as those sparkly ornament sets from Crate & Barrel (and with those you’re lucky if you find them in a 10 pack!). Origami paper packs on the other hand? 100 sheets for $16. Plus, a couple of evenings spent folding origami with your loved ones — that’s if you get a good origami book to guide you!

Perfect at crafting cranes? A pack of gold foil origami paper and a few extra hours on your hand can also make for some lovely holiday decorations. Or, go all out and fold many different animals! We recommend “Origami Animals” By Michael LaFosse available at Pearl River Mart in SoHo. It includes instructions for folding everything from cranes and frogs, to elephants and foxes!  However, the paper it comes with shows mistakes, so we recommend practicing on plain paper beforehand, or buying another pack of nicer paper for your decorations.

Let the folding begin!
