Michele Talks: Wines for Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is almost here, and most of us have a lot more on our plates than a sumptuous turkey dinner — kids home from college, relatives we’d rather not deal with, cooking for a crowd, traveling during the busiest time of the year …. We certainly don’t need to add to our worries with what wine to serve or bring for a holiday dinner.

It can be tricky to pair wine with the diverse foods of Thanksgiving - rich turkey, savory stuffing, sweet yams, and tricky vegetables like Brussels sprouts. And some guests may have a preference for white or red. Simplify the decision by taking a lot of choices (literally) off the table. Since Thanksgiving is the quintessential American holiday, serve American wine. Here are my suggestions:

Red: My hands-down favorite for Turkey Day, I’d go with a Pinot Noir, Zinfandel (which is only made in America) or a Syrah.

White: Chardonnay or Pinot Gris.

Personally, I count wine as one of the things to be thankful for on this particular holiday….

Cheers!
